This is not about one lithium miner against another but to understanding the oversupply and bottleneck story that keeps repeating itself.
EVs and battery storages demand was more in 2018 than in 2017. So far, sales in 2019 are higher than 2018.
Alb and SQM represent majority of world supply from Chile. Their production did not increase in 2018. In 2019 will be the same.
FMC(livent) production was same. Their supply is through others. Nemaska can't produce anything in 2019.
The massive supply from china was rubbish, which is now known by everyone. It was technical grade labeled as battery grade by the so called experts of investment banks.
From Australia, only ORE produced carbonate. Of the 2018 production less than half was battery grade. 2019 production will be the same.
The rest of OZ miners produce spodumene.
MIN sold DSO in 2018. Dirt. No spodumene nor LCE. Their spod production is only through NMT.
Tawana (A40) produce around 5-10kt/ month end of 2018 until now.
Pls have 47kt at end 2018.
AJM is around the same as PLS.
A40 supply go to Catl. Ajm, pls and min spod go to Ganfeng converters.
Gxy was producing 15kt every three weeks, until it slowed down due to a new pit. The customers were able to convert all supply into hydroxide. Supply was even short.
If all spodumene produced in Australia are spoken for. The supply that converters keep in warehouse is only enough until the next delivery.
Middle of 2018 JL said all supply from AJM and PLS at full production was needed. OZ miners have produced minimal so far.
Where is the bottleneck? Another story from analysts originating from china.
If demand for batteries are more in 2019 than 2018 and production from world supply is not increasing, 2nd half of 2019 will see a shortage.there is six months lag time.
Anyone that have information as to the mysterious oversupply producer please let everyone know.
