Personally, I don't believe the whip should be banned in terms of steering.
Walker is brilliant from this perspective - his left hand is extraordinary.
I look back on Octagonal - he was beaten to a pulp and the only way for him to win at that time was to remind him that an exhausted animal should never give up and that he did not.
He had welts.
Case in point.
However, it's the whipping of horses that will not run that hurts me. eg. the horse that is running last to prove to the owners that they tried.
I'm in a quandary nowadays after seeing the Autumn Sun being flogged as a Colt for him to sold on ... I'm not sure sometimes whether it may be an animal welfare problem.
If I was the horse, I think I'd chuck a Chautauqua.
