My brother and sister in law (wife's sister and husband) are both vegetarian and were vegan at some point. 

They are still vegetarian today. They got quite sick and very skinny when they switched. I understand it's a conscious thing but they said they switched to save money. But on the flip side they are eating more beans and lentils etc but have to take supplements to help their diet. Just strange if you ask me. 

Then there is also the "threat" of manufactured meat such as lab produced meat. I wouldn't touch that with a ten foot pole. God knows what side affects that will have in 10 years time. Same as those burgers.
