Very interesting Sandy! I wonder for that 35% correlation (as you said not statistically significant from zero) is due to the common driving factor - market index move? To test that, we could start from calculating the correlation of each of the two stocks with the index.
So you're basically saying some trading houses may still trigger their shorts based on the old 77% correlation, but sophisticated players are on top of that, hence the shorting efforts only produced mixed mediocre results today? Very interesting perspective and thanks for that!
