Good analysis on the correlation between A2M and BAL. Yes, they were definitely highly correlated before the BAL disaster a couple of years ago. After that, I knew on a qualitative basis in my head never to worry again about what the BAL SP was doing because the management and product are two different beasts. There was a guy here about a year ago who thought the same about A2M and BKL. He thought it would be a good pair trade when one had outperformed the other for too long. He lost a lot of money. He reckoned he was a professional trader, but did not understand the fundamentals of the 2 companies.
Yes, the shorting algos will always have a go when BAL or BKL have a bad day. Has happened now for each of their reports but A2M recovered within a very short time.
My commsec data has been showing me consistently that 66% of commsec customers are sellers vs 33% buyers over the last month in regards to A2M shares. It IS being accumulated (and not by mums and dads). Unfortunately it is one month averaged data, so I don't know what's happened since just the H1 report.
