(Will not be a large environmental burden , compared to larger operations to be much improved , as well as certainly viable and increasingly more so into the future. )
*Smaller - is increasingly to be the preferred startup for nickel operations - predominantly wrt laterites .
*There is every place for what is proposed - a sensitive to virgin environments, startup DSO - direct shipped ore ,
- highly beneficial for local providers and end - users.
* Lower grade ores even, are going to be very important . Cobalt credit - highly needed .
* Emerging processing technologies , development occurring , ongoing .
Nickel laterite , limonite, with Cobalt- to be very important , ongoing into the future for Nickel supply chain .
**Mostly into Japan , China & Korea ( Asia is 73% of world demand for nickel - end conversion and usage of nickel )
** Battery demand - pure sulphides , nickel sulphides not as critical as believed generally .
Can be generated from all sources of Nickel - made. Depends on costs / demand requirements
**but - Battery demand for nickel overall - forecast to increase at 30% year on year .
*Battery usage of Nickel is currently only 3% of world usage .
****Stainless steel , steel alloying , galvanising —accounts for 79% of world use and demand for nickel - increasing at average of 5-5.5% per year - way into the foreseeable future .
NB-
Stainless steel , galvinising demand for nickel - demand for suitable laterite nickel ores - has increased by 8% in first quarter of 2018 .
(laterites , including ferrous iron nickel ‘pig iron’ also . Adaptable . Multi - uses )
—Stainless steel nickel cannot be recycled .
* Recycled metal - for nickel is an important supply and so it should be . Will continue to be .
**EVs will not only require more copper ,but separate to battery use of minerals and metals - electric vehicles are to be much more Nickel dense , require a lot more nickel .
*Mainly due to the type of steel used - see above - Nickel dense .
** Also - Nickel - laterite - is more important overall , moving forward for sources globally for nickel , totally .
- largely from Indonesia . The world’s largest reserves of Nickel laterites . Most goes straight into China . Hand & glove relationships. (mining - processing - straight to end- user Chinese partners )
-Indonesian processing is also becoming more significant . ( acids , facilities - not environmentally friendly especially in China previously . Historically - terrible. Huge improvements in technology , processing methods evolving . )

—Importantly for as proposed by Axiom , with the SI nickel future endeavours , mining production-
* PNG - provides an excellent example , as well as new oncoming Indonesian laterite mining , and of course can be the Solomons Islands also - can help bring in the much needed supply —
I hope they get on with ensuring that this happens .
( if to be SI to supply a niche of nickel supply - there is every opportunity for this to occur . Planned . ie. Axiom , SI Isabel )
* There are planned to be more emerging , smaller highly economical nickel processing operations , again -laterites . To be increasingly important .
* potential for highly cost effective smaller nickel facilities . (Aka could cost at most $200 million - not referring for this to occur on Isabel !! Not currently relevant for Axiom -or Isabel . )
But to be more a norm :
**Smaller, well- managed and focused laterite processing facilities .
Ideal for focused boutique supply of shipped ore into what will be newer , well managed smaller ore processing facilities .
Eg. For comparison of similar ore varieties that this can relate for — Indonesia , Solomon Islands ore / aka like Philippines style .
——Highly sought - Japan , China .
(New Caledonia had exclusively supplied North America - largely mined out . Mining began - of nickel laterite ores in New Caledonia in ~ 1887. )
Especially:
** Laterite ore , with cobalt as credits - is and WILL BE - HIGHLY IMPORTANT.
