Cant say I fully understand your point 1 and 2.

"Immediately convert" because at the time of writing that post the oppies were cheaper than the heads and that situation may not last. PLUS they expire as at 31 Dec 2018 ( in approx 27 days time) so the 12 month tax benefit not being available.
