Jan 5 (Reuters) - General Dynamics Corp (GD.N) and Lockheed Martin Corp
(LMT.N) have designed different Littoral Combat Ships for the U.S. Navy, which
plans to decide later this year which design to use in the future

Each of the companies has completed work on a first ship, and begun work on
a second. They are bidding to build 10 more ships for the Navy from 2010 to
2014.

The following table shows key characteristics of the two different ships,
both of which can accept interchangeable mission modules and have a basic crew
of 40:
