Yeah, I saw Qatar gets $26 bill in tax/royalties. I wonder if the working conditions and cost of development and all other investment metrics in Qatar are the same as Aussie development. The logic of 'look around the world and find out what govt gets the most for 'something' then apply that to here' is not a valid way to think.
If so..
negative gearing should not be allowed in Oz, as I can find a country somewhere that does not negative gear
property taxes should be created where owners pay year by year, because they do that in America
each state and even each city should be able to levy GST at any rate - as they do that in America
and some more good ones
in Belgium there is a tax of 20 Euro to cook on a BBQ (save global warming).. that would be a big earner here
Estonia has a hefty tax on cow gases; we have lots of cattle here.... another big win for Aussie govt
Greece: 800 euros a year tax if you have a swimming pool.. another Aussie govt winner
Venice: has a shadow tax that if you run a business (say restaurant) and you cast a shadow on govt owned land.... tax-a-roonie
And if we impose the Hungary tax on junk food (even sweet biscuits fall into that) our govt will have so much money, maybe even they cannot work out how to spend it all
The reason for the Aussie govt to tax grab should not be: because some totalitarian regime somewhere on earth is able to extract 'x', we should etract 'x' as well. Or because silly tax in country A means we can have it here. That type of thinking in a logic is BS. But the govt sure likes it!
