I had the same thought about if they expected the gas pressure to move the fluid.
If the fluid has the same specific gravity as water then there is over 14 tonnes in weight in a narrow shaft 17 thousand feet down.
Some one else may be able to calculate the amount of presure needed to force the fluid up the shaft.
