Was the $300 ton quoted by Reuter thermal coal? when did they think it would reach that? The first 100km of cartage is by truck. They use vehicles with a 42 ton payload. 1000000 divided by 42 gives me 23,800. 2mt is 47,600. Thats truck loads a year, I am curious how they would operate, would trucks be going 24/7 with shift drivers? How fast could they do the round trip (load do the trip, unload and return?) How many trucks would they require? I dont see truck haulage as an insumountable obstacle, but I would feel happier if the rail extended to the pit. How much further is the voyage from Westport (is that there Canadian port?) to South Korea or Japan from say Queensland? How much coal is likely to be sold internally and how much exported? There are a lot of coal stocks to select from. Jal looks promising.
