Maybe somebody should ask Arvind. The Mining weekly had a story in 2012 28th March 2012 TEXT SIZE KOLKATA (miningweekly.com) - Canada’s Pebble Creek Mining Limited (PCML) conducting exploration at its Askot project, in the northern Indian province of Uttarakhand, has increased its inferred resource estimation to 1.2-million tons, compared with the 149 000 t previously estimated.
PCML, which operates in India through its subsidiary Adi Gold Mining Private, owns 100% of the Askot mining project. The increase in the inferred mineral resource resulted in new drilling operations in four different directions and inclines, Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM) officials said.
The resource measured 2.6% copper, 5.7% zinc, 3.7% lead, 0.5 g/t gold and 37 g/t silver.
Drilling operations at Askot, undertaken by the Indian government between 1968 and 1988, were suspended owing to the hilly topography of the area, which required drilling holes at elevations of 1 100 m to 1300 m through rock walls before reaching target depths of 700 m, IBM officials said.
PCML initiated a tie-up with India Resource Limited (IRL) to conduct new drilling operations at the Askot project. IRL currently has several exploration and mining operations in India, including contract mining at the Surda copper mines of Hindustan Copper Limited.
The commercialisation of the Askot exploration project assumed significance against a market survey conducted by IBM, which forecast that Indian domestic demand for lead would increase to 375 000 t by 2015 against an availability of 369 000 t, while zinc demand would rise to 993 000 t against domestic availability of 631 000 t.
