So much for the old reputation of mining workers being rich and buying toys! They would be flat out paying mortgage payments with that. A commenter adds what the miners were asked to concede:

"hey were not asked to take a pay cut, they were asked to take a pay cut, surrender holidays, superannuation, carers leave, sick leave and overtime."
