Thanks for the articles Kalmsg! They seem to have an obvious and real deficit of power in Tanzania :

"State-run Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO) has a 150 megawatt (MW) electricity deficit on its national grid that could rise to 225 MW by December, the government said on Friday.

Energy and Minerals Minister William Ngeleja said the government, in collaboration with the private sector, was working on boosting electricity generation and an additional 45MW is planned to be available by October.

Ngeleja said at the moment available power on the grid was about 542MW against a suppressed demand of about 570MW. TANESCO puts peak demand at about 787MW and sees demand rising to 1,331MW against 1,445MW capacity by 2014.

Only 14% of the population is connected to the grid, and demand is growing by 10 to 15% annually.

He added that beyond 2009, the country planned to add another 600MW to the grid by 2011, and an extra 958MW by 2015 from a mix of hydro dams, natural gas and coal.

Early this year TANESCO said it needed to add 105MW to its grid each year to meet rising demand, but faced delays in building the new plants needed to reach the target.

Tanzania produces most of its electricity from hydro dams, while it generates close to 300 MW from natural gas at a deposit on an island off its coast."

What more can you say? If all that true - only that we are on the right place at the right time, and that the commercialisation prospects have a really bright and near future :) IMO
