I don’t think anyone is arguing a lack of copper - if they were there would be a lot more noise. The issue is a lack of new, quality copper assets.
These big porphyry deposits in Chile and Peru that provide the bulk of the worlds copper supply are aging. They are getting deeper and more difficult to extract from and grades are in decline.. sure they’ll still be ‘able’ to supply the worlds copper needs for the next 20 years, but at what cost? New quality assets are needed to displace these high cost aging mines so we aren’t paying $10/lb Cu.
