WA-based Cell Aquaculture (ASX: CAQ) has inked a Memorandum of Understanding with a Malaysian based multinational corporation to commence feasibility of establishing large scale land based aquaculture production.

Investors liked the news and the shares were trading up to $0.18.

The Malaysian corporation which was not disclosed has a turnover in excess of A$5 billion.

The collaboration would use CAQ’s unique Cell™ production technologies and vertically integrated ‘Hatch to Dispatch’ business model.

CAQ Chairman Perry Leach said “following a rigorous selection process, we are extremely pleased to have been chosen to advance this very exciting large scale aquaculture opportunity."

He said the collaboration represents a major opportunity for CAQ to work with an organisation, with the size, scale and proven track record of the Malaysian corporation.

CAQ has developed large scale land-based recirculating seafood production facilities in Terengganu, Malaysia.

CAQ has developed the Cell™ propriety system over 12 years, which is a complete land based environmentally responsible aquaculture system developed for the production and supply of premium quality fin fish.

Ther company has established hatchery operations for Australian Barramundi at James Cook University, Queensland.
