"There was a time when there were no handheld XRFs, geologists actually had to identify minerals."
I rue the day they came into reporting. The swan-song of the good old days was AVB posting 50m of core in trays chock full of dirty looking chalcocite. Nothing shiny for the punters and no XRF anywhere. Market completely ignored it until assays - 10 bagger within two weeks right there. Impossible now.
Field XRF's introduction to market reporting was widely abused. JORC ran a committee that discussed appropriate reporting. I submitted a (somewhat greed inspired) page requesting they not be allowed beyond "XRF sampling indicates the presence of ....." followed by a huge disclaimer. However, as a whole, the market has generally come to report around XRF sampling reasonably fairly, IMO.
But how special is it when it breaks? ha ha ha ha. Back to the good old days but minus the caution and transparency, such that the instrument has become a crutch. Freaking ridiculous, IMO.
