Actually, for those who think that Tesla is not relevant to PDN, it actually is. ALL electric vehicles - other than hybrids that charge themselves - need power from the grid. And if electric vehicles including Tesla and others grow into a significant market share, then the demands for power that are placed on the grid will need some serious re-thinking of baseload power supply in many places - including Australia.

Sheesh, we can't even provide enough power to run everyone's air-conditioners on a hot day without blackouts occurring. Imagine what it would be like with 20-amp charging stations running all night everywhere?

So the move to electric vehicles - remembering that more and more countries are banning diesel and gasoline/petrol fueled vehicles in the next decade or two - will provoke some serious re-thinking. Most home charging stations will be running overnight - when the sun ain't shining and the wind doesn't blow in most places. Nuclear power anyone?
