The Australian Government-funded Australia-Africa Partnerships Facility (AAPF) is working with the Botswana Institute for Development Policy Analysis (BIDPA) to recruit for two coal specialist roles based at the Ministry of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources (MWEWR) in Gabarone, Botswana.
The two roles are a Coordinator and Deputy Coordinator for MWEWR's Coal Development Unit (CDU), established in 2012 to facilitate development of the coal value chain for Botswana; from mining, coal washing, power generation, transportation, storage at ports to shipping. “The mandate of the CDU is to facilitate monetisation of Botswana coal by developing and implementing an accelerated coal monetisation strategic plan, coordination of the optimisation of the coal value chain, directing the planning of the coal and coal related rail development, undertake coal facilitatory projects and will be the contact point between government and the private sector,” the Botswana Minister of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources, Ponatshego Kedikilwe, said.
Coordinator:
The Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating the development and execution of MWEWR's coal monetisation program, aimed to ensure that coal becomes one of the country's main sources of revenue by 2025. The ideal candidate would possess a minimum of 14 years professional experience in the relevant area including the management of mega infrastructure projects, preferably in coal mining. Also, at least an MSc in mining engineering or related subject and, ideally, a Masters of Business Administration (MBA).
