I wasn't aware of the interest from Autohome, but this puts iCar shareholders in a good position as it means there could be two bidders when/if a the takeover offer comes. I feel iProperty could have used a competing rival to make another bid. Telstra-backed Autohome or Carsales are both great suitors.

The biggest advantage in getting Autohome on board (via a strategic investment) would be to neutralise a potential cashed-up rival, but I'd expect Carsales wouldn't be keen for Autohome to take a large %. I don't think iCar needs the capital at this moment, although the way internet businesses like grabtaxi and gojek are throwing around capital in SE Asia, maybe iCar feel they need to pursue market share more rapidly? Or maybe an acquisition (Myanmar?) could be on the cards if iCar secures a strategic investment. I'm pretty sure the money raised recently was expected to last until the company was bringing in enough revenue to cover its costs.
