JC the biggest favourable development for the economics of agriculture is expensive energy. Because if a country chose to try and keep food cheap with subsidies, ethanol and biofuel producers will simply go in there and buy exploit that 'cheaper' energy source until parity is reached. Food markets have never known this type of inflationary pressure before. Interesting times.
