Increasing the tax threshold was a devious move, as the main motive was cost savings. Not the public media presentation that it was to help taxpayers
The return to the ATO was less then the expense to process the lower incomes tax return.
I alway try to determine the underlying reason for any introduction of legislation by politicians!
Wasn't it Labor that increased the threshold to $18,200? When Keating introduces the imputation many people could meet the threshold from term deposits even if they may not have been working.
