Agree with that. Hard to see where the growth and recruitment is going to come for these specialist roll-ups.
While the specialist shortage could be caused by the (alleged) market control by the colleges, it actually takes a lot more resourses and more highly (medically) qualified teachers than it does for a medical school up lift.
There are only just so many (adequate quality) supervided training locations, and there is a lot of pro-bono work done that would have to be funded if the government, or universities wanted to wrest control of the speciality training. The AMC and ACCC have reviewed and been unable to indentify (or force) major changes in the training processes, and it is clear the AON solutions (and imported foreign graduates - like Dr Patel) are not uniformly successful.
That means that the eye and radiology companies are going to find increasing difficulty recruiting suitable employees. However, the increasing numbers of graduating doctors will struggle to get positions, and in particualar advanced GP traning.
Maybe Uncle Ed should start his own advanced GP training as part of his Primary Health, pay some supervisors, and this would attract medical graduates who need to gain additional training, and then get locked in. This could still be a win/win if the graduates did not have an alternate position to go to.
