I have to say I was a little sceptical on this idea. How do you convert the renewable energy to heat ?
I'm assuming that the renewable generation isn't near the power station so how are they actually generating the heat and what are the losses involved ?

Having a big enough heat storage for a large power station would be an impressive effort. That made me revisit 1414 degrees and their project they have going.

Makes me wonder whether a molten salt heat storage unit couldn't compliment a cfps. One of the big issues with renewables are their disruptive nature for conventional coal power stations.

Could a heat storage unit make use of some of the boiler output as load varies so that the boiler can remain in a constant and therefore more efficient state ?
