Still its not in the middle of nowhere - its near the coast, sealed roads run nearby and there's basic services/infrastructure in the local communities (coral bay, exmouth etc.). They'd probably have to truck ore up or down the coast to ship it - though a fishing fleet does operate out of exmouth and cruise ships go in there. Ningaloo reef is outside of the gulf, on the ocean side of the peninsula, south along the coast as I understand it.
