Another element that I feel that everyone is forgetting: Mitsui. I cannot imagine that they would be happy with the prospect of a 'nobody' coming in and assuming majority control over the Meridian asset. If the future rate of return for WCL renders the 36 cent non-offer as manifestly inadequate, then one would assume that Mitsui would also have to be running the ruler over WCL.

This could get mightily interesting; but kudos to Landbridge; that is now one hefty blocking stake. The question of the day is - what is their intention? This could simply be a case of recognising an opportunity and utilising financial clout to pull off one heck of a short term trade. Santos cannot be happy with this, and you can bet your bottom dollar that Landbridge would be well aware of that. Bring on Monday.
