To support savvy investor's last remark, I bought the Platinum Asia Fund (the predecessor of PAI) in August 2003 and sold out in November 2016. All distributions were reinvested, and the amount received at the end was 4.975 times the initial investment, for a compound growth rate of 13.1%. (I did have to pay tax on distributions on the way through, which was always a bit complicated for my accountant.)
I was very pleased with the Asia Fund, and I have similar expectations for PAI over a ten-year period. I also prefer the simplicity of the LIC structure.
