The miner knows that he gets paid a higher amount for sending ore to the crushing plant, so will attempt to do so, even with sub-economic grade ore. A tightly run operation will appoint a geologist to go into the pit and closely supervise the excavation of the ore, according to the cut off grade, feed envelope. The samples of selected ore has to be treated immediately, in the on-site lab to corroborate the expected feed grade. Sending low grade ore to the plant deeply affects the economics of a marginal operation, such as this.
