Perhaps big pharma will be cautious until at least phase 1 is complete and no-one has died or had severe side effects. After all this is a totally new antibiotic with totally new mode of action.
Having said that, some degree of side effect (if not permanently damaging) ought to be acceptable where the alternative is death or disability from an otherwise untreatable superbug.
