I suspect the SP was manipulated yesterday. The market action was unusual to say the least, and the SP was ramped in the closing auction - I think an attempt was made to make it look like it would keep going up.
Would be worth a quick submission to ASIC - except that they obviously can't do anything about it, other than pestering.
