Dr Hill's research interests as leader of the CSIRO Magmatic Ore Deposits Group focused on the following objectives:
to develop a detailed knowledge of the geological processes which produced the known world-class Ni-Cu deposits and their host provinces
to develop criteria which will enable these provinces to be recognised elsewhere, and their contained orebodies to be located, evaluated, delineated, and exploited efficiently.(!!!)
His research group achieved an indisputable premier international position for its applied research on Archaean komatiite-associated nickel deposits
Dr Hill developed and guided his research from a comprehensive global knowledge of 'nickel' from mineral to market
In 1973, he joined the Division of Minerology, CSIRO, Perth, Western Australia. His research at CSIRO continued on geological aspects relevant to nickel exploration and developed a focus on the complex volcanological evolution of Archaean ultramafic rocks which host the nickel deposits.

Interestingly he took 4 months to go to Hawaii and study volcanic flows in order to get up close and personal with lava flow mechanics. Wow!

In this web article you will see Dr. Hill being awarded the 1992 Sir Ian McLennan Science for Industry Award, and guess who is standing next to him? Ms Sarah Dowling. (Have I heard that name somewhere before?)
There are many nickel hopefuls in W.A. and the world, but to snare the interest and time of someone like Dr. Hill as a consultant! Brilliant. He must think that Roe Hills has what it takes as he would want to crown his successful career with a real coup. A Major Major Discovery.. like Roe Hills.
It does not get any better for an explorer. You just need to have the best technical team to give yourself the best chance of success.
Dr. Hill is more than technical or academic. He is totally committed to applied science. Seeing knowledge applied to reap real benefits. His biography emphasises that.
