The question is whether coal prices will ever recover now that the whole world pushes for fracking and China is sourcing more and more coal from the huge deposits in Mongolia. I am a bit pessimistic in this regard and given WEC's outstanding track record of not developing anything plus far off schedule we shouldn't expect any cash-generating operation before 2015.
Anyway that American mine or those mines - as the recent announcement speaks of more than one deposit - shouldn't be affected by the deteriorating thermal coal prices since according to the first announcement from December they contain "speciality low-ash coal" obviously used for metallurgical processing, perhaps even for silicon processing.
