Baby steps...but still steps.
Seems that they are looking to drill long laterals through the coal seam without fracturing (which should lower costs).
Not a geologist, but seems they are trying something new (compared to OZ and elsehwere) given that the coals are very tight, but very extensive and have structural integrity. My reading is that they will drill long laterals using the cheapest cost possible (not fracturing and minimising water) in return for relative low flow rates at high European prices, meaning a longer-payback period...bit more like the more 'passive' CMM approach.
Anyway, any more informed perspectives would be much appreciated.
The lower seam which they are testing next is the one with naturing fracturing...so the methods and economics of that might be more 'conventional'????
