One of the reasons CSIRO developed this technology was to increase demand for Titanium so Australia could develop its Ti resources. Too bad we just seem to direct ship ore to refineries overseas, would be nice to see powders sourced from a domestic supply, this would help ensure security of supply in the military applications. Hopefully this will be a future direction.
When the US govt was developing the U2 spy plane they had to setup a covert operation to source the required Titanium metal from a Soviet refinery.
