    I have long ago learnt that trying to second guess what market sentiment might do in the short term is a bit of a fool's errand.

    A far more rewarding approach, I have found, is to focus first and foremost on valuation.

    Because that's where the share price inevitably heads.

    In BLD's valuation case, simplistically the stock is trading on a P/E multiple of 11 times.

    Ask yourself this: if you were a billionaire looking for some place to invest your wealth, and someone offered you a business like Boral at a price of 11 times it's current level of profitability, would you think it a better idea to take up that offer, or to leave your money in the bank?
