The SI Forestry minister was arrested in Honiara last week .
The second significant arrest of a parliamentarian recently I think .
He is purported to been using significant department budget monies - for own enjoyment and use , instead of for budgeted needs . He appeared in court and was discharged on bail late last week , to face formal charges next year .
I am fairly certain he will not be eligible for re- election now that he is under investigation , facing criminal charges .
New anti corruption legislation ensures - good character and standing of anyone seeking to be eligible to represent the country as an elected representative in parliament has to be ensured .
For some months - Police and judiciary been saying that they have especial interest- regarding 10 current Govt ministers .
10 Solomon Islands Government ministers have been under investigation for misappropriation of Govt allocated budgetary funds - to their own personal gain and frivolous purposes even.
Investigations are continuing . Without prejudice .
Further arrests are announced to be expected .
The people sound genuinely very glad that leaders who may have abused their positions - are being brought to account for their demeanours. Fairness is all it is about . Country can’t endure anymore such occurrences.
Meanwhile- in the Country’s main hospital- there have again been shortages , donations to fill come from private local benefactors and neighbouring countries including Australia. For some very basic needs . But people are upset by the lack - basic hospital needs , while some Govt MPs have been likely extorting funds in past years .
Was reported that doctors have on occasion resorted to operating under light from their mobile phones in recent weeks - which is an absolute ‘no- no !’ ( as overhead hospital lights failed in blackout )
(The blackouts have occurred - power outages have increased in frequency. Electricity reform - now coming
. NB . Tina Hydroelectric scheme startup announced and ceremony for to thank contributing countries and WHO Bank , and SI Govt funding- all announced - start last week by Minister for Mines and Rural Electrification.
Not picking on anybody .
