Steve - a few comments ...
- CTDs valuation of goodwill is one of the remaining opaque/unresolved issues worrying analysts. Essentially the inference is that they’ve inflated earnings by not amortising it fast enough. VGI has requested more details. For me, I don’t really care what they value good will at as the value of the business is it’s cash flow, however, if they did amortise it faster, EPS would be lower and P:E would be even higher (perhaps scaring some holders).
- CTD have explained the low interest income on the basis that they have this cash at June 30, but average balances are much lower through the year. So they can’t use this ‘cash’ for a buyback without borrowing.
