Oh and exploration JVs often end in a buyout. Many majors don't want to go into production with a minor partner.
A cash injection for the explorer to continue the cycle.
Done that way, the explorer never gets to capitalise on the true extent of the discoveries.
That's my interpretation of selling the farm. @Mossberg has asked that question several times and I had to give it some serious thought.
