Neurofeedback and Peak Performance
In addition to its clinical use, Neurofeedback has proven to be highly effective for improving athletic performance through increased attention and concentration, reduced performance anxiety, and increased physical and sensory motor balance .Neurofeedback can be effectively used in all those sports that require a high level of concentration (golf, archery, football, etc.) and recently its applications have been particularly well-known in the field of arts (dance, music and acting ). From the research at Imperial College London, we have received encouraging results with an improvement of 17% in the 97 students of the Royal College of Music Performance. The Neurofeedback Program, has long been an essential part in the training programs of NASA astronauts and many Olympic athletes.
In fact, one of the most used protocols in Neurofeedback, ie the alpha-theta training , was thought to induce person in a state of deep concentration / immersion in creativity and artistic production. Concentration and emotional balance are key elements in sporting and artistic performance, and what happens in Neurofeedback training is just the cognitive function training to achieve greater dexterity and mental flexibility.
In addition, the Neurofeedback methodology is also used in multiple circumstances, where you need to be at the maximum of cognitive efficiency to perform important tasks. For example, business executives can benefit from training to enhance their leadership skills, reduce stress and improve time management , as surgeons can increase concentration and sharpen sensomotor skills. Accustoming the brain to working more focused and productive means dispersing less mental energy and maintaining emotional control , skills that allow us to make the most out of every circumstance.
