Actually it wasnt that long ago, 2012 and it was post-NBN as there was rumours that either Michael Malone or Simon Hackett would be nominated for the NBN Board. What triggered all the interest was Leightons exiting Metronode and the possibility of IIN buying that and merging it with Internode for cloud services. But in order to support the increased demand IIN needed to increase transmission capability and that was where TPG came into the equation. TPG had its direct undersea assets to Guam which afforded decent access to the US and the springboard into SE Asia being Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam...
All history now and it seems David Teoh and family have come out the other side as the bigger players from humble beginnings as a computer peripherals supplier turned small ISP to now.
Awesome stuff and good to see this instead of offshore heavy weights just fly in and dump and bully. Been too much of that in the industry in the last 20+ years and many in the industry are worse for wear as a result.
