@ jigsawing: PCR and DNA sequencing are two different platforms. DNA sequencing has a PCR component but PCR test per se is not involved in sequencing. In recent years, sequencing has become a more important diagnostic tool because of reducing in cost and reporting time of doing sequencing. This doesn't mean conventional PCR (either simple PCR or multiplex) is completely replaced by sequencing.
3Base platform as a multiplex PCR screening test has its merit , such as multi targets, relatively high sensitivity (but less specificity), cheaper and technically simpler and faster than sequencing, at least in the moment.
