JH explained to me how the Bots Govt have been supporting BCL mines for many years with BCL rarely making a profit.
BCL 's copper grades have been declining year on year and the mines consumed about 20% of the entire country's electricity. Now they are closing, much skilled labour is available, the Botswanan economy needs alternative industries to de Beer's slowing diamond production while the Govt will have spare funds for investment in projects good for the future of Botswana. JH hoped that it won't be long before they employ 400-500 staff at the Kalahari project once they sub-contract the mining operation.
So there are many synergies plus hope that there will be a mutual back scratching campaign in the near future.
