The problem this country has is since it joined the EU, it has effectively sacrificed it's domestic manufacturing and primary industries, taking advantage of tarriff free imports from within the EU, hence why we run sludge a massive trade deficit. While some will say  "that's great, as now we can rebuild that", the investment and time needed is a problem. The biggest issue though is the current uncertainty, we may be leaving the EU, it may all be cancelled by Christmas,  who knows? We may have a trade agreement, me may crash out with no deal and no infrastructure to deal with the consequences. To be frank tge country and government is a complete joke at the moment.
