You just get a sense of estimating gas flow from flare size. It's not a hard science, just a ballpark figure. You really need to see video rather than photo because it can be an intermittent flare which would obviously mean lower rates.

I checked with a couple of other people including the friend mentioned earlier and they both estimated in the 1-10Mscfd range. It's not really a tight guesstimate because it's an order of magnitude scale we're talking about. The point is it's not 100 Mscfd and it's not 1 MMscfd.

In true thermogenic CSG there will always be at least some heavier HCs, mostly ethane but up to pentane. A lot people in the non-CSG petroleum industry will tell you that CSG is dry gas, essentially pure methane, but that is wrong. It's just that usually we only produce from fields that are shallow with high permeability where the heavies have been biologically reduced to methane by methanogenic bugs. In deep CSG deposits, you get significant heavies because the bugs can't live down that deep, so they can't break the heavies down to methane.

So it would actually not surprise me if the gas is fairly wet. STX will know from the gas samples they've taken but I guess they're not going to tell us. But 10% ethane, 1-2% propane and traces of butane and propane would not surprise me. Could add significant value if true.

I'm playing around with my model now trying to reproduce the results STX have reported. Suffice to say 90% saturation changes things considerably if true. You can go back over STX's previous presentations about the influence of saturation on EUR per well and see for yourself...
