Anyone who believes solar will make a meaningful contribution to peak load/base load or any other reticulated source of electricity is unburdened by knowledge of how the electricity market works, the technical limitations and density of solar energy and basic economics.
The day they can engineer solar to have significantly greater than 100% efficiency (as opposed to the ~25% efficiency achieved now) a feat that probably involves engineering nuclear reactions into solar cells, and can simultaneously make it work in the dark I think more conventional sources of electricity generation are safe.
If gas demand being displaced by solar is on STX's worry list/risk register (to my knowledge it is not) I would suggest they have a problem prioritising.
