Consolidation will be the last nail in our (SHs) coffin. Consolidation without a SOLID plan results in simply SP having room to slide to pre-consolidation SP but shareholdings being dramatically reduced and hence total shareholding value. FPL is an example to study. Note: spikes in SP in the chart is simply consolidation not increased value.

I have had a few stocks reduced to UNmarketable as a result of consolidation without a solid plan.
