Things that expand don't necessarily weigh much more than before expansion.Think of a balloon.After it is blown up it is fifty times larger but the only increase in weight equals the weight of the air it contains.So if one gram of graphite becomes 1kg of graphene what does the missing 999g consist of.Maybe you are confusing mass with volume.
