A non-holding LSR poster gave me a different meaning of p & d yesterday, which apparently afflicted LSR on Tues and Wed according to him - jimmycrackcorn.

He said this:

The good old Mac Equity Pump and dump. ​

Seen this plenty of time before. ​

I replied:

"pump and dump" is a commonly used description here on HC.​

I'm not quite sure what it means, but have been interpreting 'pump' as meaning that HC spruikers, who have already bought, unconscionably and unjustifiably promote the hell out of the selected stock on HC, and when the innocent and gullible have bought up at inflated prices, the pumpers then 'dump' their shares on the market and make a handsome profit at the expense of the gullible audience.​

How do you interpret the expression? ​

He replied:

I interpret it as a shareholder(s) entity(s) with intimate, clear and unbiased from glossy publication knowledge of the company (no allegation of insider trading here) acting in a coordinated way with respect to intra-party selling and buying on market (using bots??) manipulate a share to increase (pump) and then sell (dump) for profits.​

Buy back low and repeat.​

I replied:

Ok.​

I am not surprised by what you say. That's pretty sophisticated and Machiavellian, eh!.​

So, in this instance, the pros got hold of the news yesterday and manipulated the SP up and down, fluctuating along the way, by cross-buying and cross-selling and profiting greatly at the expense of innocent buyers caught up in the false updraft. Right?​

So, no HC malevolent promotion, but very helpful excited HC posters innocently aiding and abetting the process instead. They are used by the pros then. Right? ​

QUESTION: How do you posters understand the meaning of p & d? Are there 2 meanings? Mine which is sort of overt, and the other which is covert?
