Gday Chimpbpoy,
Refer to @Teddyward response to @Megafauna - (https://hotcopper.com.au/posts/33133636/single) over on the other thread.
Also, refer to the pricing details for FCAS type services which the SA Tesla battery provides (sorry, I can't find the link at the moment, but I'm pretty sure someone posted it a while ago) indicating that this installation has significantly reduced the pricing for 'covering' unplanned outages since commissioning.
As far as I know, WA has no significant battery providing this kind of service, so my thinking is that if CCE are able to get Northam up and running and also install battery storage to provide FCAS type services, then they are likely to almost have a monopoly on that in WA and thus edge other peaking plants run on gas or diesel out of the market.
In addition, if they managed to successfully introduce say a vanadium flow battery at that scale, this would certainly market EMC to a large number of both on and off grid markets. Anything from medium businesses wanting energy security to large, remote mine sites worldwide.
Thats one reason why I think this is potentially an important question to ask and if my thinking is correct, something that HQ should be giving us some more detail on.
