Orion , if you where to be correct l dont believe they would have extended the offer, it may still happen in order to get $$$s in the coffers , but l dont think its been planned that way, the response by smaller shareholders hasnt been a positive one & thats no surprise (top 20 hold over 65%) so that leaves the largest shareholders with deep pockets to as you say to take up the shortfall, l for one am not one bit surprised , but would be surprised if take over was to occur within the top twenty shareholders.
However been wrong in the past and may well be wrong again.
